The Earth’s core is split up into two parts: the inner core and the outer core.

The inner core is at the centre and it is about 70% of the size of the moon. We think it’s solid and made of a mixture of iron and nickel and pretty much as hot as the surface of the sun (about 5505 degrees).

The outer core is a liquid layer and is also made of iron and nickel.

You can see a nice diagram here: https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth's_core
