There are different types of steroids which mainly fall into 2 classes:
1) Corticosteroids – There are several uses for these in the body such as regulating stress response to decrease inflammation. These steroids are given on the NHS. In fact I had to have an injection of these steroids just over a year ago because I messed up my shoulder lifting weights I shouldn’t have.
2) Androgenic/anabolic steroids. These are the ones that people usually think of. They promote muscle growth (along with other quite negative side effects). I’m not too knowledgeable on these types of steroids but I would stay clear of them if you haven’t got a professional guiding you on using them.
It’s always dangerous to mess about with the body’s growth, unless you know exactly what you are doing. I would only use steroids if I was prescribed them by a doctor. There’s always a price to pay with drugs (side effects), and I don’t think it’s worth it for slightly bigger muscles!
