      The science I do is pretty ‘basic’ as they say: It’s really mainly about understanding something – in this case the brain. I’m sure that in 10-20 years this understanding will help us to do really important things with the brain, like healing a lot more diseases, helping people to learn better etc. Some of this is already happening now. For example, we have started building awesome robot arms (and legs) for people who have lost limbs. Those robot arms record some of your brain activity and ‘read’ in which direction you want the arm to move. That only works because we have started understanding the language that neurons use to signal ‘I want my left arm to go up.’ But a lot of our new knowledge can’t be put into action yet – which is good. We should be sure of what we know before we start applying it in humans!
