I’d say don’t think of it as a dream, but as something that you take one small step towards every day. Ultimately a dream is just that – a series of small steps that you keep on making for something you love. It only looks like ‘Whoa, I achieved this big goal!’ in hindsight. And even if for some reason life ends up having different plans for you, those every-day steps you made are still yours to be proud of and to build on.
Alison and Paul said what I was going to say between them.
There is no substitute for hard work. The harder you work, the better you will be.
But there is no point being good at something if you don’t accept the opportunities when they come. Seek out work experience, accept opportunities to meet new people.
Finally don’t be afraid to ask. The worst you can get is a “no” and that wont kill you. So always ask 🙂
Work hard but have a good work-life balance; make the most of every opportunity and never be afraid to try something new or different, you never know where it might lead you!
Relevant work experience is also a good idea, there is a lot of competition for university places these days so sometimes it comes down to extracurricular activities, not just good grades.
