This post tries to answer the question: http://www.livescience.com/38856-why-people-recall-dreams.html

But like many science articles it can be a little hard to understand so I’ll try to summarize some of the main points:

      1) We’re not completely certain about why we sleep or dream and the article even admits that “scientists aren’t sure why some people remember more than others”. So the truth is, no one has the definite answer to your question. But they think they might be getting closer….

      2) “People who tend to remember their dreams also respond more strongly than others to hearing their name when they’re awake”

      3) Finally research also showed that people that recall their dreams better also wake up more frequently during the night. So perhaps people may recall dreams better because they’re dreaming whilst not being in deep sleep.

Again I would reiterate that no one really knows but we’re trying. 🙂
