I’d rather do practical! But writing up is important, it helps me get my ideas clear and also allows scientists to share their work, which is essential 🙂

Practical science, sitting at a desk isn’t nearly as much fun. But practical science is only meaningful when you look at the data and decide what it means – the excitement comes when you do your analysis and work out whether your hypothesis was correct!

I prefer the practical side of science. When you’re actually doing practical stuff, it really feels like you’re contributing and advancing. I don’t get that from writing. Also I’m pretty rubbish at writing too.

But I do agree with both Alison and Hannah, you have to write up. When I do eventually get round to writing, I find that I see gaps in my work that I need to patch up. Because when I write I’m thinking more and I need everything to come together.

I guess I’m the odd one out here, as I kind of prefer writing! Of course, you need to do practicals to get something to write about, so I do enjoy doing them, but yeah, writing is fun.
