I’d love to discover the overall principle of how the brain transmits information. Like the E = mc2 of the brain.
Right now, we have lots of different rules that are sort of correct, like ‘When you see a certain visual object, some neurons in your brain will most likely become more active at a delay of a few hundred milliseconds.’ Which is true, but the fact that we have hundreds of those little observations without being able to predict what the brain will do in a situation… it just means we don’t really understand what is going on fundamentally! Like watching objects fall to the ground, but not having found the concept of gravity yet. I’d love to be the one who finds the ‘gravity’ of neurons!

I would love to discover the cure(s) for all cancers. It affects so many people. I know people that have had it, that still have it and those that have died from it.

Of course there are many other horrible diseases but cancer really gets to me and I would love to cure it.

A cure for Alzheimer’s. It’s a very unpleasant illness, both for the person who has it and the person who has to care for them, sometimes for years or decades, whilst being confronted with the knowledge that their loved one no longer knows who they are. Finding a cure would improve a lot of people’s lives.
