Well, I don’t think animals ever truly, consciously take over. Human DNA evolved to destruct a lot of other species (often in a way that is bad for us actually). The way I look at it is that DNA is carried in different species in a bid to continue life over generations. I think DNA in a disease, or a highly destructive insect would be the most likely candidate to wipe out human DNA and carry a different strain of life as a dominant life form.
I agree with Alison on this one. But if I had to come up with something really far-fetched then perhaps it would be land dwelling dolphins…… Just a thought 🙂
Ha, that’s a cool question… of course it depends on how you define ‘run’. Let’s say humans mess up somehow and die out. I can imagine that one of the insect species (like ants, cockroaches…) could take over large bits of the planet. That kind of ‘colony mind’ could be really intelligent too, just in a very different way from humans. In terms of a more human-like smart species… I’m sure it would take a few million years, but I’m rooting for the land-dwelling octopus!
