Hey Oxygen, no, I haven’t had a mouse die while I was changing their brain activity. That part is not dangerous (or even noticeable) to them. A couple of mice sadly died though when something went wrong with the surgery I do to put electrodes in their brain. They were anaesthetized then, so it was sad for us, but not painful for them. Finally, I do have to kill our mice when they get old, because they can’t carry electrodes around on their head forever – it would start making them uncomfortable. For that I let them breathe in an anaesthetic and they ‘fall asleep’ within a few seconds. Again, it’s sad for us, but we make sure they don’t suffer.
